THE GRAMMYS 2025 — A BREAK DOWN BY EMILYG

THE 2025 GRAMMYS WERE A GREAT MOMENT FOR FASHION, but not for trevor noah.

Besides Trevor Noah’s completely untimely and insensitive jokes about immigration and odd dig at Shakira, the Grammy awards and the girlie’s outfits were total hits. Here is my take on the most talked about looks from this year — ranked from best to worst. (Don’t hate me.)

CARDI B

Cardi B absolutely stunned in Roberto Cavalli on the carpet this year. Brands like Cavalli and Jean Paul Gaultier are making a huge comeback in recent years, and Cardi’s gown is the perfect ode to that. The animal print and sequins are loud and bold, and the subtle transition into feathers adds an extra layer of femininity and complicity to the look. I personally am a huge fan and think Cardi kills it every time.

CHARLI XCX

Charli’s outfit was inSANE this year. Dressed in Ludovic de Saint Sernin, her corset-turned-drama at the opera look had me applauding at first sight. Kudos to her stylist for understanding that a 5’3” woman should not disappear in a sea of fabric, and that she should instead make the fabric her b*tch. The outfit didn’t wear Charli — she wore the outfit.

DOECHII

Custom Thom Browne looks gooooooood on our Doechii baby. The woman may be average height, but her look makes her look like she shouldn’t be rapping — she should be runway-ing. She is serving office siren realness. The dress may not be Vivienne Westwood, but I know the legend is smiling from above at this gorgeous look that to me, really resembles something Viv would’ve created.

SABRINA CARPENTER

I am brutally aware of the fact that this gown was a lot of the girlies’ first choice for best look this year. While I agree that her custom JW Anderson dress is gorgeous, it was not my #1 look. Even so, Sabrina looks beautiful and the dress is giving Hollywood Glam, Marilyn Monroe vibes. The feather and silk combo looks so regal to me, and I love that we didn’t lose her waist in this gown with too much of either material.

Alicia keys

Alicia Keys looks perfect to me. Her Dolce and Gabanna look is stunning, and even though the dress is a bit plain, the jewelry makes up for it. The way the earrings connect to mimic a necklace is so interesting to me. What really would’ve made a difference for me is if the gown had some sort of structure, like a hoop skirt. Though it wasn’t one of my top looks, I still appreciate how intricate and feminine the jewelry looks on a simple dress.

LADY GAGA

Listen. I LOVE Lady Gaga and everything she stands for. And I love a little goth moment, truly. This Samuel Lewis outfit is very mother, very c*nt. However… it also kiiiiiind of looks like she was dressed by Batman and Wednesday Addams. Not to say that is necessarily a bad thing — she still looks fashion forward as per usual.

Olivia rodrigo

I am a huge fan of Olivia’s music, but this plain ole’ Verscace gown did not do it for me. It looks too prom-y for such a lavish event. I understand that the reason for such plainness could be because she was not going to win any Grammys this year, but c’mon girl. You’ve still gotta try.

Billie eilish

Ok I’m sorry this is so difficult to say but WTF. I know this is typical Billie style but it’s serving goth train conductor who is confused about his profession and is considering being a sailor or waiter. Prada never looked so boring or odd to me. And the chain is not giving expensive, it’s giving Spencer’s. SOS.

Taylor swift

Don’t cancel me. This one hurts because Vivienne Westwood is one of my favorite designers of all time. But I am bored. It looks like her stylist threw her in this after her makeup was done, told her to throw on matching heels, and said “that’s it, girl!” Like where is the effort? Where is the glam?

CHAPPEL ROAN

I’m so sorry but this vintage Jean Paul Gaultier dress literally looks like a Forever 21 and Shein cola to me. I love Chappel, but I hate this print. At least her hair and makeup is slaying, per usual. I don’t have anything else to say. Ugh.

xoxo,
